The problem
Dating apps stall at the text stage: matches chat for days, never hear a voice, and go cold before they ever meet. Charging a flat monthly subscription for that experience also prices out users who would happily pay for a single call.
The approach
Built matching on a preference-learning layer that ranks on personality and interests rather than proximity alone, then removed the step where conversations die by putting HD audio and video calling directly in the app. Added a local events and meetups feed to move connections offline, and profile verification with safety controls so the calling features could not be abused. Replaced the flat subscription with a coin wallet — calls are billed per minute (audio 10 coins, video 25) and gifts from 5 coins — so spend tracks usage and a first-time user can start from a small recharge.
The outcome
Live at scale across 150+ countries with a coin-based model that converts casual users without a subscription commitment.
